MFM signal transformation principle from MFM signals to magnetic fields at a sample surface war clarified by considering MPM tip Green's fractions. The transformation principle was applied to MFM line profiles for perpendicular magnetic recording media It was found that the tip-sample distance during MFM measurement could be roughly estimated and the commercial magnetic coated MFM tip behaved as a monopole tip by the transformation procedure. Using the above results, the magnetic field analysis at the sample surface was demonstrated by MFM signal transformation.
