Investigation of superconductivity in BeB2 synthesized by the solid state reaction method

摘要
Superconductivity in BeB2 synthesized by the solid state reaction method was investigated. BeB2 was synthesized by pressing well mixed Be metal powder and amorphous boron powder into small pellets at 3000 atms and loading and sealing the pellets into tantalum (Ta) cells. The cells were inductively heated under flowing argon gas to 1030°C in a BN crucible surrounded by a graphite susceptor. The susceptibility measurements showed that BeB2 was paramagnetic and showed no superconductivity down to 1.8 K.
