摘要
Coiled hollow glass waveguides (HGWs) were studied for use as gas sensors in the near and mid-IR regions of the spectrum. An analytic expression was obtained for the loss as a function of the number of turns, N, in the coil. The expected linear dependence of loss on N holds for radii greater than 13 cm, but deviates for smaller radii. The loss of HGWs is also shown to depend on silvering time acid surface roughness.
