Neocryptolepine and biscryptolapine, two new alkaloids, were isolated from the root bark extract of the African medicinal plant, Cryptolepis sanguinolenta (Lindl.) Schlechter (Periplocaceaa), and their structures elucidated on the basis of spectral evidence. The H-1 and C-13 NMR assignments of cryptoquindoline, a known artefact, were revised.
