NMR and NQR studies of beta-Mn alloys

beta-Mn alloys were studied by Mn-55 NQR and NMR. The temperature (T) dependence of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate (1/T-1) of Mn-55 at site II is sensitive to the doping of non-transition metal elements. 1/T-1 varies in proportion to root T in beta-Mn, however, 1/T-1 increases rapidly and becomes nearly T-independent with the doping of non-transition metal impurities (In, Sn and Sb). This result represents that the electronic state of Mn atoms changes from itinerant state in pure beta-Mn to more localized state in beta-Mn-(In, Sn and Sb).
