Utility, serendipity, and the pleasure of encountering the saved data relies on more than search alone when using Personal Information Management (PIM) tools. The number of ways to keep and manage information has increased considerably in step with the overall increase in the number of devices, technologies, and applications. Tools that help in categorizing the things that are saved might play a role as well as by helping in matching encountered informations in areas of personal interest. A more uniform cross-application infrastructure for highlighting, annotating, and setting reminders to mark information for later use should be developed. PIM tool developers must remember that the utility of encountering the saved data requires attention to the many ways we interact with the information.
