摘要：

Linkage analysis of primary osteoarthritis pedigrees and of affected sibling pair cohorts has identified a number of chromosomal loci that are likely to harbor genes encoding for susceptibility to this common arthritis. These loci are currently being intensively investigated with the likelihood that within the next 5 years novel genes harboring predisposing mutations will have been identified. This will facilitate our understanding of how this debilitating disease develops and progresses.
