ROSAT PSPC observations of Abell 3667

We have examined the X-ray morphology of A3667 and its relation to the galaxy distribution. The X-ray isophotes of A3667 are very flattened in the center of the cluster and gradually become consistent with circularity at the lowest levels detectable. There is significant X-ray emission associated with a group of galaxies around the second brightest cluster member. The X-ray morphology of this emission indicates that this group is merging with the cluster. The average temperature we measure for the cluster, 6.3(-0.6)(+0.5) keV, agrees well with previous measurements. The azimuthally averaged radial temperature distribution shows that A3667 is not isothermal, likely having a hotter core.
