Electrochemical characterization of graphite composite-coated electrodes for hydrogen evolution reaction

Composite materials with a metallic matrix were prepared from a graphite powder intercalated with various metals (Pd, Pt, Ph) by electrocodeposition in aqueous solutions of dissolved nickel or copper. The graphite particles held in suspension were codeposited with the metal during the electrodeposition. The materials were used as electrodes for the hydrogen evolution reaction and characterized by galvanostatic polarization, AC impedance, and SEM techniques. It is observed that the effect of the codeposited particles on the hydrogen evolution reaction is strongly related to the nature of the metallic matrix surrounding the particles.
