Odoriferous sesquiterpenoids from the liverwort Gackstroemia decipiens

Two new beta -santalanes, 9-hydroxy-santala-2(14),11-diene and 11-hydroxy-santala-2(14),8-diene, along with the known beta -photosantalol A and beta -photosantalol B, have been isolated from the liverwort Gack-stroemia decipiens (Lepidolaenaceae). Furthermore, a recently reported bergamotane derivative, (-)-13-hydroxybergamota-2,11-diene, could be identified. The structures were elucidated by NMR spectroscopy and the scents were characterized by olfactory evaluation. Copyright (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
