Urea hydrolysis of cobalt(II) nitrate melts: synthesis of novel hydroxides and hydroxynitrates

摘要
Urea hydrolysis of Co(II) nitrate melts in an open vessel yields different phases at different temperatures. While at 80 degreesC a hydrotalcite-like mixed-valent Co(II,III) hydroxide of formula Co(OH)(2)(NO3)(0.27).2/3H(2)O is obtained, at 100 degreesC we obtain a modification of Co(II) hydroxide with formula Co(OH)(1.75)(NO3)(0.25).2/3H(2)O. At higher temperatures, two different basic salts of composition Co-7(OH)(12)(NO3)(2). 5H(2)O (120 degreesC) and Co-3(OH)(4)(NO3)(2) (160 degreesC) are obtained. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
