摘要
NIOST focuses on the development of an operational observing network combining surface observations on meteorological, hydrological, and surface energy fields with upper-level atmospheric soundings. The developed observing network may provide crucial meteorological information that can be used for monitoring, prediction, and assessment of high-impact weather and climate change for East Asia, including China and Japan. The new observational datasets may also be useful when studying the impact of the Tibetan Plateau on global weather and climate change. We will report some preliminary results from NIOST in a forthcoming paper. © 2008 American Meteorological Society.
