Excited state absorption of erbium-doped laser crystals

摘要
The excited state absorption of the I-4(13/2) level has been measured in Er3+-doped YVO4 and phosphate glass from 400 to 1900 nm. We use a cw pump probe technique. In Er:YVO4 the ESA starts at 1650 nm. In Er:phosphate glass the ESA appears at 1565 nm and will consequently reduce or prevent the great wavelength laser emission.
