摘要
The recognition capabilities of enzymes were combined with chemisorption for the selective and efficient removal of phenolic impurities from solutions. Specifically, enzyme tyrosinase was used to selectively oxidize phenols into o-quinones. The ortho/meta/para selectivity of tyrosinase and the possibility of regio-selectively removing undesired isomers from mixtures of substituted phenols using tyrosinase and chitosan were investigated. For rapid reactions, oxygen reactant loss was monitored with a dissolved oxygen electrode. For slower reactions, phenolic reactant loss was monitored by high performance liquid chromatography. Ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry was used to estimate the amount of quinone and phenol oligomers appearing in the solution.
