摘要：

The deformation and failure of top coal and strata are complicated problems in top coal caving. In this study, the problem was resolved through numerical simulation. For purposes of demonstration, numerical simulation was carried out focusing on the mining process at the 8911 coal face in the Xinzhouyao Coal Mine. It was found that coal in the mine is too hard to be fractured effectively under the abutment pressure, and that there are zoned characteristics in the abutment pressure.
