Equiaxed grains in multicomponent alloys: Effect of growth rate

摘要
The influence of growth rate on the formation of equiaxed grains in recalescence conditions is studied using a model adapted From Maxwell and Hellawell. This model numerically simulates the nucleation and initial growth of equiaxed crystals. The relationship between growth rate and undercooling is assumed to be controlled by diffusion. This relationship is extended to multicomponent alloys. The growth rate increases as a reciprocal function of a new parameter, denoted by U, which represents the chemical effect. The calculated grain density increases with U, and with the cooling rate. Comparable tendencies are observed on values measured in Al alloys. (C) 1997 Acta Metallurgica Inc.
