Axial plaque redistribution as a mechanism of percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty

摘要
Volumetric intravascular ultrasound analysis of 22 native coronary artery narrowings studied before and after primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty showed that all of the increase in lumen volume was explained by an increase in external elastic membrane volume, with no decrease in plaque + media volume. This suggests that plaque compression is not a mechanism of balloon angioplasty in human coronary arteries in vivo.
