CP asymmetries in Bd → D*+D*- and Bs → Ds*+Ds*- decays:: P-wave dilution, penguin and rescattering effects

Determination of the CP-violating parameters sin2 beta and sin2 beta' is shown to be possible from B-d(0) vs (B) over bar(d)(0) --> D*D+*(-) and B-s(0) vs (B) over bar(s)(0) --> D-s*D-+(s)*(-) decays without doing the angular analysis. The P-wave dilution factors of these two asymmetries are found to be 0.89 and 0.90, respectively, using the factorization approximation and heavy quark symmetry. The penguin-induced corrections amount to about 2% and 3% in the corresponding B-d and B-s channels. Final-state rescattering effects could be handled by detecting the neutral modes B-d(0) and (B) over bar(d)(0) --> D*(0)(D) over bar*(0). (C) 1999 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
