Reactions of iridium(III) compounds with alkynes in the presence of triethylamine: The first example of M-CH=CH-(+)NR(3)

Reactions of the iridium(III) compounds [Ir(H)-(-C=CPh)(PhCN)L(3)](+) (1) and [Ir-CH=CHCH=CH)-(PhCN)L(3)](+) (2) (L(3) = (CO)(PPh(3))(2)) with HC=CH in the presence of NEt(3) produce the acetylene-inserted products [Ir(H)(-C=CPh)(-CH=CH-(+)NEt(3))L(3)](+) (3) and [Ir-CH=CHCH=CH)(-CH=CH-(+)NEt(3))L(3)](+) (4), while those with HC=CPh give the alkynyl complexes Ir(H)(-C=CPh)(2)L(3) (5) and Ir-CH=CHCH=CH)-(-C=CPh)L(3) (6).
