3D FEM simulation of the thermal events during AA6061 aluminum extrusion

摘要
The temperature rise that occurs in the billet and die during extrusion of the AA6061 alloy at different reduction ratios and ram speeds was characterized using the DEFORM 3D finite element method (FEM). Most of the temperature are occurred at the initial stage of extrusion. As the ram traveled further, the temperature became stable. Both reduction ratio and ram speed influenced the magnitude of the temperature rise. Temperature inhomogeneity on the cross section of the extrudate was also observed.
