Spin polarization and magnetic circular dichroism in photoemission from the 2p core level of ferromagnetic Ni

Spin polarization and magnetic circular dichroism are calculated for angle-resolved photoemission from the 2p core of ferromagnetic Ni. Spin-polarized spectra are found to be in excellent agreement with experimental results. Final-state many body effects are calculated within a periodic-small-cluster scheme. Numerical estimates of the degree of hybridization in the final states are reported, and the spin polarization of the spectrum is explained. The calculated magnetic circular dichroism spectrum exhibits significant strength only in the satellite region.
