Indications of a T=0 quantum phase transition in SrTiO3

We have been investigating the effects of electric fields on SrTiO3 for temperatures in the range from 1.6 to 50 K. Measurements of the electric-field-induced strain show a clear signature with increasing field of a crossover from electrostrictive to piezoelectric behavior. The strain versos voltage data scale to a single curve, which we interpret as evidence for a T = 0 quantum phase transition. The coefficient of electrostriction appears to diverge as T --> 0, further suggestive of a T = 0 phase transition.
