A new calculation method for particle motion in tangential direction in discrete element simulations

摘要
Discrete element simulations not only require the calculation of the contact forces in the normal direction but also in the tangential direction. The dynamic friction model used for tangential calculations should include sliding and rolling friction models. A simple coefficient of rolling friction is found insufficient for the calculation of linear and angular motion in discrete element simulation. It is shown how sliding and rolling friction can be introduced into efficient calculation methods for discrete element simulation. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
