The effect of lignin on the moisture-dependent behavior of spruce wood in axial compression

摘要
Tests in compression parallel to the grain in wet and dry condition were conducted. For this purpose, an attempt was made to compare normal wood (NW) and compression wood (CW) samples. Density of the specimens was determined gravimetrically and a scaling factor was calculated. It was found that a pronounced influence of varying lignin content on compressive strength and modulus of elasticity is present in fully water saturated cell walls.
