The effect of particle size on the adhesion properties of oxide washcoats on cordierite honeycombs

摘要
The adhesion of various oxide washcoats, namely γ-alumina, zirconia, titania and ceria, deposited upon cordierite honeycombs was studied. In particular, the adhesion of the washcoat layers upon the monolith walls was explored by exposing the loaded monoliths in a stream of hot air in a small laboratory reaction simulating the car exhaust system and measuring their weight loss as a function of time. By using SEM, the quality of the washcoat layer before and after the adhesion tests was assessed.
