Effect of coupling agents on the moisture absorption of natural fibre-reinforced plastics

摘要
The poor resistance of cellulose fibres to moisture absorption and the lack of good interfacial adhesion make these fibres less attractive for reinforced plastics. By an optimal predrying, it is possible to increase the mechanical properties of jute-epoxy composites by 20%. Using silane as a coupling agent, the interface and, therefore, the composite properties are improved and the influence of moisture decreases. With this surface treatment, the tensile strength becomes independent of the moisture content of the composite. For the Young's modulus and the Wohler curves, the influence of moisture on this composite properties decreases also distinctly.
