Lattice compression and charge transfer in electron-doped L(2-x)Ce(x)CuO(4) superconductors

The superconducting transition temperature has been determined in a series of L(2-x-y)L(y)'CexCuO4 (L, L' = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd) superconducting oxides with a T' structure. Analysis of the electrical resistivity and the Seebeck coefficient has allowed us to separate, for the first time in superconducting cuprates, charge-transfer effects from the intrinsic pressure effects on the dependence of T-c on the interatomic distances. We have found that at a constant free charge density, T-c increases with increasing cell dimensions and pressure always leads to a decrease of the in-plane electron density.
