摘要
Alternative methods of encapsulating other materials within nanotubes have now been developed where carbon nanotubes can be used as reactive templates to generate novel metal carbide and nitride nanorods. Also, numerous noncarbon materials are able to form novel nanowires and fullerene-like morphologies. The methods for generating these structures are discussed and their possible applications in materials science and engineering are evaluated.
