We discuss two types of partial derivatives which occur, e.g., in the Euler-Lagrange equations. To avoid confusion, a different notation (o(x)F/o(x mu)) and a new name (whole-partial derivative) are suggested for what is usually written as dFldx(mu) but acts on both the explicit and implicit dependence of F upon the coordinate x(mu).
