摘要
Bimetallic Ni alloys and solid solutions have been synthesized using spray pyrolysis of metal nitrates. Characterization of synthesized Ni compounds was performed using XRD, SEM, TEM, and EDS, in order to confirm phase compositions. The electrochemical performance for the oxidation of hydrazine in alkaline media for four different compositions of NixZny, Ni80Zn20, Ni66Zn33, Ni50Zn50, and Ni33Zn66, and one composition of NiCo, Ni50Co50, was tested and compared to that of Ni. Highest mass activity was found in the Ni80Zn20 sample, which according to geometry matching has a Ni-Ni distance that matches the gas phase groundstate geometry of hydrazine. This finding highlights the importance of matching surface structure and molecular geometry for this and possibly other catalytic reactions.
