Measurements of the sulphide capacities in the Al2O3-CaO-SiO2 system were carried out al 1773, 1873, 1848 and 1923 K using a gas-slag equilibration technique. The experimental results along with the literature data were employed to optimize the parameters of the sulphide capacity model developed at the Division of Theoretical Metallurgy. A complete description of the C-S in the Al2O3-CaO-SiO2 system was obtained. The calculated results were found to be in good agreement with the experimental data. Comparisons of the experimental C-S values with the calculated results using the optical basicity approaches were also made. (C) 1997 Canadian Insitute of Mining and Metallurgy.
