Intrahepatic regional chemotherapy did not yield any significant therapeutic benefit until recently. Moreover, surgery was required for catheter placement. With the progress in microinvasive percutaneous techniques for catheter implantation, the new chemotherapeutic and radionuclide agents available, and the new possibilities of combining different approaches (intra-arterial chemotherapy, hepatectomy and radiofrequency ablation), however, the future of this route of treatment seems very promising.
