Growth and annealing of (Bi1-xPbx)(2)Sr2CaCu2O8+delta single crystals

We report on the growth of (Bi1-xPbx)(2)Sr2CaCu2O8+delta single crystals. The crystals reach a maximum substitution level of x approximate to 0.20 accompanied by a clear increase in the wavelength of the displacive modulation along the b-axis, in agreement with the results of the polycrystalline samples. Their transition temperature can be varied from 90 K to 76 K by annealing in argon and oxygen respectively. We also introduce various modifications to the annealing procedures in order to get very narrow transitions, as small as 0.3 K for the undoped crystals.
