Beauty is in the I of the beholder: Metal-ion coordination and I⋯I halogen bonding direct the self-assembly of achiral starting materials (a calix[4]arene tetraamide, Bal2·2H2O, and 1,8-diiodoperfluorooctane) into a homochiral supramolecular complex containing double helices (see structure; Ba light purple, I purple, F green, O red, N blue, C gray; one double helix in red and yellow).
