Lattice parameters, tetragonality (c/a) and transformability of tetragonal zirconia phase in plasma-sprayed ZrO2-Er2O3 coatings

摘要
Stress-induced transformation toughening is dependent on the characteristics of the metastable tetragonal zirconia phase. Rare-earth oxides are known to stabilize the cubic and tetragonal phases. Recently, a series of erbia-stabilized zirconia powders and coatings were prepared by plasma spraying. The amount of erbia ranged from 2 to 10 mol%. This paper highlights the changes in lattice parameter, tetragonality (c/a) and transformability of the tetragonal phase in this system with respect to the addition of erbia stabilizer.
