摘要
This paper reports the findings of a study which examined the training needs of 15 small companies who are members of the Trafford Park Performance and Quality Forum. Among the main findings are that total quality management is regarded as more appropriate to large companies; registration to the ISO 9000 series of quality management system standards is perceived to be the most important quality management initiative undertaken by them; and training courses that focus on ISO 9000 series type issues were also the most important training needs identified. The companies studied showed a lack of organization for training in terms of policies, records, planning and review of the training undertaken. A number of problems have been encountered with the training which are related to resources such as time, finances and personnel, and lack of adequate information about training provided and the means of obtaining outside support for the training.
