摘要
Complementary metallographic and crystallographic characterisations of the Mg-rich corner of the Mg-Ni-Sn system are presented. In particular the Mg(75)Ni(15)Sn(10) phase, previously reported by Arcondo et al. [Hyperfine Interact. 66 (1991) 359] has been identified as a tetragonal phase by transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction studies. The influence of this new phase, called Y-phase, on the glass forming ability of alloys with nearby composition is discussed. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
