Thermo-elastic response of monolithic and composite plates to a thermal shock

摘要
The thermo-mechanical behavior of thin plates subjected to a step-shaped heat flux is studied analytically and experimentally. First, dosed-form solutions for temperature and curvature as a function of time are derived for orthotropic monolithic plates. Second, composite plates are modeled by using equivalent properties and by taking into account a non-uniform fiber distribution, which leads to a bilayer effect. Finally, experimental temperature and curvature measurements on unreinforced Ti-6Al-4V plates and Ti-6Al-4V plates reinforced with unidirectional SIC fibers are compared to these analytical predictions.
