Some ruthenium cluster chemistry with alkynes:: Structures of two Ru3 and two Ru4 complexes

The molecular structures of four ruthenium cluster complexes, isolated in small amounts in the course of studies of the reactions of alkynes or a 1,3-diyne with ruthenium cluster carbonyls, are reported: Ru-3 (mu (3)-PhC2C=CHPh)(mu -OH)( CO)(9) (1), from Ru-3 (CO)(10)(NCMe)(2) and PhC=CC=CPh, is probably formed by addition of water to a diyne-Ru-3 precursor; Ru-3 {mu (3)-C(OCH2CH=CH2)CHCCPh2OC(O)}(mu -dppm)(mu -CO)(CO)(6) (2) was isolated from the many products of the reaction between Ru-3 (mu -dppm)(CO)(10) and HC=CCPh2 (OH); Ru-4 (mu (4)-PhCHC2CHPh)(CO)(12) (3) was found among the thermolysis products of Co2Ru3 (mu (5)-PhC2C2Ph)(mu -CO)(3) (CO)(11); and Ru-4 (mu (4)-CHCCH2CHPMe3)( CO)(10) (PMe3) (4) was formed by reaction of PMe3 with Ru-3 (mu (3)-HC2H)(mu -CO)(CO)(9).
