Sulfur plays a critical role in both the troposphere and stratospheric budget of atmospheric gases. Up to the present, the investigation of the atmospheric sulfur cycle remains a subject of intense scientific interest. This review covers the gas-phase chemistry of dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and its important oxidation products. Topics discussed include the chemistry of dimethyl sulfide (DMS), chemistry of dimethyl sulfoxide, and the present state of measurements in the field and their interpretation.
