ERDA of solar selective absorbers

ERDA (elastic recoil detection analysis) with 200 MeV I beams was used during the development of new solar selective absorber materials (TiNxOy and AlCuxFey). Depth profiles of the light and heavy components were measured simultaneously using a detector system with particle identification. Two oxidation processes were found in TiNxOy absorbers at elevated temperatures which result in absorber degradation. Coating of the absorber with SiOx improved both the efficiency and the life time. For the production of the quasi-crystalline phase of AlCuxFey an over-stoichiometric sputter target was necessary due to additional Al2O3 formation.
