Effect of cyclic loading and strain rate on the mechanical behaviour of sandstone

摘要
A study was conducted to relate the effect of strain rate on the uniaxial compressive strength and thereby the effect of strain rate on the fatigue stress of Chunar sandstone. The compressive strength, the failure stress at different percentages of stress level, failure strain and Young's modulus were calculated from load-deformation curves. The results indicate that the tested rock, although weakened, can sustain a certain amount of fatigue loading depending on the level of applied stress and the number of loading cycles.
