Preliminary report on the electrochemical behavior of Ti3SiC2

摘要
The electrochemical behavior of Ti3SiC2 was studied in three solutions: 10% H2SO4, 3% NaCl and a 3% NaCl solution to which 1.5% sodium thiosulfate (Na2S2O3) was added. The sodium thiosulfate was added to explore the effect of the coexistence of sulfur and chloride ions on the corrosion behavior. The corrosion rate of Ti3SiC2 in a 10% H2SO4 is lower than the corrosion rate in either a 3% NaCl solution or a 3% NaCl solution to which 1.5% Na2S2O3 was added. The corrosion rate of Ti3SiC2 in 10% H2SO4 is 0.45 mmpy, which is roughly half that of Ti in the same solution. Conversely, the corrosion rate in the 3% NaCl solution is higher than that of pure Ti.
