Stabilizing the dilaton through the axion

摘要
We propose that instantons and axionic domain boundaries stabilize the dilaton. An estimate of the resulting dilaton potential yields a relation between the axion mass and the dilaton mass. A decay constant of the dilaton of the order of the Planck scale then implies m(phi)m(P) similar to m(a)f(a), and the dilaton should be strongly aligned at the onset of oscillations, in order not to overdose the universe.
