Society of interventional radiology position statement on chemoembolization of hepatic malignancies

Hepatic arterial chemoembolization is a safe, proven, and effective technique for the treatment of a number of malignancies, including HCC, neuroendocrine tumors, ocular melanoma, cholangiocarcinoma, and sarcoma. It has a palliative role for patients with colon carcinoma. It may be useful with patients who have hepatic-dominant metastatic disease from other primary malignancies. The benefit of chemoembolization for these individuals should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. © SIR, 2006.
