摘要
The natural function of the skin is the protection of the body against the loss of endogenous substances and the undesired influences from the environment caused by exogenous substances. The skin acts as a barrier against diffusion of substances through the underlying tissue. Overcoming this natural barrier is the main problem in dermal/transdermal delivery of drugs. The study of lipid organization which contain the skin dead cells will provide a greater understanding of the barrier function of the skin. The lipid phase behavior found in human, pig, and mouse stratum corneum as a function of hydration is summarized and presented.
