Gold(III) complexes with diphenylthiocarbazonate.: Synthesis and [Au(Hdamp-C1){PhNHNC(S)NNPh)Cl]Cl x H2O and [Au(Hdamp-C1){PhNNC(S)NNPh) (Smetetraz)] (Hdamp-C1=2-(dimethylammonium-methyl)phenyl;: -Smetetraz=2-methylmercaptotetrazolate)

Dichloro[2-(N,N-dimethylaminomethyl)phenyl-C-1,N]gold(III), [Au(damp-C-1,N)Cl-2] reacts with diphenylthiocarbazone, PhNHNHC(S)NNPh, under formation of the cationic species [Au(Hdamp-C-1){PhNHNC(S)NNPh}Cl]Cl. The reaction goes along with cleavage of the Au-N bond and protonation of the dimethylamino group. Diphenylthiocarbazonate coordinates singly deprotonated as N,S-chelate. There is no evidence for the formation of Au(I) species during this reaction. The chloro ligand in [Au(Hdamp-C-1){PhNHNC(S)NNPh}Cl]Cl can be replaced by thiolate ligands. The reaction with 2-methylmercaptotetrazolate, (-)Smetetraz, yields the zwitterionic Au(III) complex [Au(Hdamp-C-1){PhNNC(S)NNPh} (Smetetraz)]. The protonation of the dimethylamino group is maintained whereas the exocyclic part of the coordinated [PhNHNC(S)NNPh]ligand was deprotonated to give [PhNNC(S)NNPh](2-).; X-ray analysis verifies the different bonding modes of the diphenylthiocarbazonato ligands by the detection of different C-N and N-N bond lengths in the [PhNNCNNPh] backbone.
