摘要：

(Chemical Equation Presented) A real step-saver: A single ruthenium-carbene complex catalyzes a sequence of two reactions, namely, a metathesis reaction (ring-closing or cross metathesis) and subsequent dihydroxylation of the newly formed double bond. A variety of cyclic and acyclic cis-diols were prepared in good yields (see scheme). This new methodology provides an interesting alternative to the pinacol coupling. © 2006 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
