Multi-(h)over-bar omega shell model analyses of elastic and inelastic proton scattering from N-14 and O-16

Elastic and inelastic scattering data from the scattering of 160 MeV protons from N-14, and of 200 MeV protons from O-16 have been analyzed using a fully microscopic distorted wave approximation. The analyses involve large space (multi-h omega) shell model wave functions, an effective nucleon-nucleon interaction that is energy and medium dependent, and fully microscopic (nonlocal) optical potentials built with that same effective interaction. The results for N-14 and O-16 correlate with analyses of elastic and inelastic electron scattering form factors indicating that improvements are needed in the shell model interactions used to obtain the nuclear wave functions.
