摘要
Previous studies have shown that glasses in the binary system CaO-SiO2 containing 30 mol% CaO, prepared by means of a sol-gel route are reported to be bioactive. However, its effects on cellular metabolic activity have never been explored. The objective of this study was to investigate the behaviour of osteoblasts on the surface of S70C30 glass substrates. Previous work found that melt-derived 45S5 Bioglass(R) substrates supported enhanced osteoblast function and gene expression compared to standard tissue culture plastics. This study supports the hypothesis that P2O5 free binary S70C30 gel-glass provides a favourable environment for osteoblast proliferation and function.
